After developing the launch line, we needed to put together a project to help test it out. It needed to be something that used a lot of power, but needed to be simple enough to finish in a short time. We were able to get 40m of high power RGB LEDs in Shenzhen for about $25 USD, so we put together a plan for using them.
We built a quick test module, using the 6 GPIO and PWM pins to drive a low side MOSFET. The LEDs were 12V, but with driving a whole 5m spool, we were pulling over 1.5A for each length, so the VIN power was used. To keep things simple, an ATX power supply was used for keeping the lights turned on, so to speak.
More details on the build to follow.
